# iPhone Wallpaper Size for Every Model: 2026 Resolution Chart

Exact wallpaper sizes in pixels and points for every iPhone from iPhone 11 to iPhone 18 Pro Max, plus iPhone Air, 17e and both iPhone Duo displays.

By the Minipaper team · Wallpaper Guides · 9 min read

An iPhone wallpaper should match your screen's pixel size exactly. That is 1206 × 2622 for iPhone 18 Pro, 17, 17 Pro and 16 Pro, 1320 × 2868 for every Pro Max since iPhone 16, 1260 × 2736 for iPhone Air, and 1170 × 2532 for iPhone 17e and 16e. iPhone Duo needs two images: 1398 × 2034 for the outer display and 1878 × 2670 for the inner one.

Pixel counts and display sizes below come from Apple's technical specifications, for example the [iPhone 18 Pro specs](https://www.apple.com/iphone-18-pro/specs/), the [iPhone Duo specs](https://www.apple.com/iphone-duo/specs/) and the [iPhone Air specs](https://www.apple.com/iphone-air/specs/). The chart gives width × height in portrait, the way you'd set up a canvas, current as of October 2026.

## iPhone wallpaper size chart (October 2026)

| iPhone model | Wallpaper size (pixels) | Points | Scale | Display |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone 18 Pro, 17 Pro, 17, 16 Pro | 1206 × 2622 | 402 × 874 | 3× | 6.3" |
| iPhone 18 Pro Max, 17 Pro Max, 16 Pro Max | 1320 × 2868 | 440 × 956 | 3× | 6.9" |
| iPhone Duo, outer display | 1398 × 2034 | 466 × 678 | 3× | 5.4" |
| iPhone Duo, inner display | 1878 × 2670 | 669 × 951 | about 2.81× | 7.6" |
| iPhone Air | 1260 × 2736 | 420 × 912 | 3× | 6.5" |
| iPhone 17e, 16e | 1170 × 2532 | 390 × 844 | 3× | 6.1" |
| iPhone 16, 15, 15 Pro, 14 Pro | 1179 × 2556 | 393 × 852 | 3× | 6.1" |
| iPhone 16 Plus, 15 Plus, 15 Pro Max, 14 Pro Max | 1290 × 2796 | 430 × 932 | 3× | 6.7" |
| iPhone 14, 13, 13 Pro, 12, 12 Pro | 1170 × 2532 | 390 × 844 | 3× | 6.1" |
| iPhone 14 Plus, 13 Pro Max, 12 Pro Max | 1284 × 2778 | 428 × 926 | 3× | 6.7" |
| iPhone 13 mini, 12 mini | 1080 × 2340 | 375 × 812 | about 2.88× | 5.4" |
| iPhone 11 Pro | 1125 × 2436 | 375 × 812 | 3× | 5.8" |
| iPhone 11 Pro Max | 1242 × 2688 | 414 × 896 | 3× | 6.5" |
| iPhone 11 | 828 × 1792 | 414 × 896 | 2× | 6.1" |
| iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation) | 750 × 1334 | 375 × 667 | 2× | 4.7" |

A few things the chart makes obvious. iPhone 18 Pro and 17 Pro share a panel size, so a wallpaper made for one fits the other exactly. The [iPhone 17e](https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2026/03/apple-introduces-iphone-17e/), announced in March 2026, uses the same 1170 × 2532 grid as iPhone 12 through 14. The iPhone Duo point sizes are the ones iOS reports to apps, as measured while building Minipaper's iPhone Duo support; Apple's spec page lists pixels only.

## How do I find out which iPhone I have?

Open **Settings › General › About** and read the line labeled Model Name, which is all you need to pick the right row above. The same screen also shows the Model Number, as Apple's [model number guide](https://support.apple.com/en-us/106343) explains.

Storage size and color never change the screen, so the model name is all you need. If you're making a wallpaper for someone else's phone, ask them for that line rather than guessing from the camera bump.

## What is the difference between pixels and points?

Pixels are the physical dots on the panel. Points are the layout units iOS and apps use, and the scale factor converts one into the other: on a 3× iPhone, one point is a 3 × 3 block of pixels. Design wallpapers in pixels, because that's what the screen shows.

Most iPhones in the chart are 3×. iPhone 11 and iPhone SE are 2×. Two rows aren't whole numbers:

- **iPhone 13 mini and 12 mini** lay out 375 × 812 points, but the panel is 1080 × 2340 pixels, about 2.88 pixels per point. Multiply the points by 3 and you get 1125 × 2436, which is the iPhone 11 Pro size, not the mini's.
- **iPhone Duo's inner display** reports 669 × 951 points on a 1878 × 2670 panel, about 2.81 pixels per point.

The rule that avoids both traps: take the pixel size from the chart and never compute it from points.

## What aspect ratio is an iPhone wallpaper?

About 19.5:9. Every Face ID iPhone in the chart falls between 2.164:1 (iPhone 11 through 14, 16e and 17e) and 2.174:1 (iPhone 16 Pro, 17, 17 Pro and 18 Pro). iPhone SE is 16:9, or 1.78:1. The iPhone Duo is the outlier: its outer display is 1.46:1 and its inner display 1.42:1, much closer to a paperback than a phone.

Those numbers explain most "it looked fine on my old phone" complaints:

- **iPhone 13 to iPhone 17 Pro Max.** The shapes are nearly identical, so iOS trims only about 5 pixels of width. But it has to enlarge the 1170 × 2532 image by about 13% to fill 1320 × 2868, and that enlargement is where the softness comes from.
- **iPhone SE to a 6.3-inch iPhone 17 Pro.** A 750 × 1334 image has to be enlarged almost 2× to fill 2622 pixels of height, and about 18% of its width falls off the sides.

So between Face ID models, resolution is the problem, not shape. Between an SE and anything newer, or between a regular iPhone and an iPhone Duo, shape is the problem too.

## Why does a 1:1 match with the screen matter?

Because then iOS has nothing to fix. An image with your screen's exact pixel size is shown pixel for pixel: no enlargement, no crop, nothing for you to pinch into place.

When the image doesn't match, iOS scales it until it covers the whole screen and crops whatever overflows. A wider image loses its sides, a taller one loses its top and bottom, and a smaller one gets enlarged and soft. You can drag and pinch to choose the crop, but you can't add pixels that aren't there.

Two iOS features change this picture:

- **Perspective Zoom** enlarges the wallpaper so it can drift as you tilt the phone, which crops a little off every edge even when the size is perfect. If your version of the wallpaper editor shows a Perspective Zoom option, turn it off. Apple has documented that the option doesn't appear while Reduce Motion is on, so if it's missing, check **Settings › Accessibility › Motion**.
- **Extend** in iOS 27 uses Apple Intelligence to widen a photo past its edges when it doesn't match the screen's proportions, and iOS suggests it automatically ([MacRumors](https://www.macrumors.com/2026/09/15/ios-27-five-new-features-iphone-lock-screen/)). It's useful for a photo shot at the wrong ratio. For a design, it's better to start at the right size so nothing gets invented at the edges.

## Where are the safe zones on the iPhone Lock Screen?

Keep roughly the top third of the image calm, keep the bottom corners plain, and put your subject in the middle. Everything iOS draws on top of the wallpaper lives in those other areas.

From top to bottom, a Lock Screen on iOS 26 or iOS 27 has:

1. **Status bar and the notch or Dynamic Island** along the top edge. Fine detail here gets cut by the black cutout.
2. **Date and clock.** On iOS 26 the clock is a Liquid Glass clock that can stretch down into empty space in the photo, so it can be much taller than you expect. iOS 27 adds a [compact clock](https://www.macrumors.com/how-to/ios-use-compact-lock-screen-clock/) that shrinks the time into the top row, set per Lock Screen.
3. **Widgets** in a row below the clock, plus a small inline widget next to the date.
4. **Notifications and Now Playing**, which stack up from the lower half of the screen.
5. **Two control buttons** in the bottom corners (flashlight and camera unless you've changed them) and the home indicator line between them.

We don't publish pixel coordinates for these on purpose. The clock's size depends on the font, the iOS version, the compact setting and how much empty space iOS finds in your image, so a template with fixed boxes would be wrong for a lot of setups. Leave slack instead.

The Home Screen is simpler: app icons and the Dock cover most of it, and iOS may blur or dim the image behind them. A wallpaper with one strong area of color reads better there than one with small detail.

## How do I set a wallpaper without iOS cropping it?

Start with an image at your model's exact size, then leave the framing alone.

1. Save the image to Photos. AirDrop, a cable or iCloud Drive all work, as long as nothing in between recompresses it.
2. Open **Settings › Wallpaper › Add New Wallpaper**, tap **Photos** and pick the image.
3. Don't pinch or drag. A correctly sized image already fills the screen, and any pinch re-crops it.
4. If it still looks enlarged and the editor shows a **Perspective Zoom** option, turn it off.
5. Tap **Add**, then choose **Set as Wallpaper Pair**, or **Customize Home Screen** if the Home Screen should get its own image ([Apple Support](https://support.apple.com/en-us/102638)).

If you see a soft, slightly enlarged result after all that, the image is probably smaller than the chart says it should be. Check its size in the Photos info panel before blaming iOS.

## How does Minipaper size its wallpapers?

Minipaper, a wallpaper maker app for iPhone and iPad, skips the lookup. It reads the screen size from the device it's running on and renders every wallpaper at that exact shape, so there's nothing to crop when you set it.

- **Exact shape, your choice of sharpness.** Exports render at the screen's point size times the export scale and are saved to Photos as PNGs. The default is 2×. High (4×) and Ultra (8×) unlock with Minipaper Pro or with any single style purchase. On a 3× iPhone, the 2× default has fewer pixels than the panel (804 × 1748 on a 402 × 874-point screen), while 4× and 8× render above the panel's resolution and iOS scales them down. For fine lines and small type, pick 4×.
- **Real corners.** On iOS 26 and later, shapes that hug the screen edge follow your display's measured corner radius instead of a generic one.
- **iPhone Duo, one display at a time.** Since version 6.1.1, Minipaper sizes the wallpaper from whichever display it's open on. Open it on the inner screen for an inner-screen wallpaper and on the outer screen for the cover.
- **Composed around the clock.** The editor shows a mock clock and widgets so you can see the safe zones while you work. The export is the art only, and iOS adds the real clock.

Seven styles are free with unlimited exports, including [Simple Gradient](https://minipaper.app/styles#simple-gradient), [Polka](https://minipaper.app/styles#polka) and [Arch](https://minipaper.app/styles#arch). The [full catalog](https://minipaper.app/styles) has 34. Whatever you make, keep the default crop when you set it.

## When will this chart include iPhone 18?

When Apple ships it. As of October 2026 there is no base iPhone 18: this fall's new models are iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max and iPhone Duo. [MacRumors reports](https://www.macrumors.com/2026/08/12/apple-skipping-iphone-18-launch-this-year/) that the standard iPhone 18, an iPhone 18e and an iPhone Air 2 are rumored for around March 2027. We'll add their rows once Apple publishes the specs, and this post will show the date of that update.

Until then, if you buy a new iPhone, check its Model Name first. Two phones a year apart can share a pixel grid, and two phones with similar names can differ by a hundred pixels.

## Frequently asked questions

### What size should an iPhone wallpaper be?

The same pixel size as your screen. That is 1206 × 2622 for iPhone 18 Pro, 17, 17 Pro and 16 Pro, 1320 × 2868 for iPhone 18 Pro Max, 17 Pro Max and 16 Pro Max, 1260 × 2736 for iPhone Air, and 1170 × 2532 for iPhone 17e and 16e.

### What is the aspect ratio of an iPhone wallpaper?

Every Face ID iPhone in the chart is about 19.5:9, between 2.164 and 2.174 times as tall as it is wide. iPhone SE is 16:9, and the two iPhone Duo displays are much squarer, at about 1.42:1 inside and 1.46:1 outside.

### Why does my wallpaper look zoomed in even though it is the right size?

Perspective Zoom enlarges the wallpaper so it can shift as you tilt the phone. If your wallpaper editor shows a Perspective Zoom option, turn it off. Apple has documented that the option is hidden while Reduce Motion is on, so check that setting if you can't find it.

### What size wallpaper does iPhone Duo need?

Two images. Apple lists the outer display at 1398 × 2034 pixels and the inner display at 1878 × 2670 pixels, and the two screens have different shapes, so one image can't fit both without cropping.

### Is a bigger image always sharper as a wallpaper?

Only when it has the same shape as the screen. A larger image with the right aspect ratio is scaled down cleanly. One with a different shape is enlarged until it fills the screen, and the overflow is cropped off.
